The Presidents of the University of São Paulo: 1934–2018

The objective of this book is to tell the history of the University of São Paulo (USP) over almost nine decades from the perspective of its presidents. This is not a collection of biographies, but narratives of the lives of these people, told by themselves, whenever possible, or by third parties. Over the 28 chapters, the development of the University and the position of its main head are presented. Over the years, USP has adapted to the population’s expectations and both have come closer, so today the interaction with society is considered its third mission, in addition to teaching and research.
